MELODY

"She moved through it with a quiet steadiness. Stalwart. Confident."

Time with Melody feels intentional.

The hike unfolded in the afternoon, light beginning to soften as we moved through a technical stretch of terrain—large rocks, steady inclines, moments that required attention and trust in your footing. It was the kind of landscape that reveals something about a person. I had seen glimpses of Melody’s solo hikes through her social media before this, and I knew this place would show her clearly.

She moved through it with a quiet steadiness. Stalwart. Confident. Open. Even when the trail demanded more, she stayed present. The uneven terrain tested her balance at times, and she joked—dryly—that she was “seriously unbalanced,” the kind of humor that made the effort feel honest rather than heavy.

Friendly in conversation and thoughtful in pause, Melody spoke about her father—about how his passing in 2018 reshaped her life, and how the openness she carries now is something she believes she inherited from him. A way of staying connected. A way of honoring who he was.

“She notices the small things instinctively. Sounds. Animals.”

Melody grew up outdoors. Playing outside with friends and siblings. Taking nature walks with her parents. Over time, that connection faded, as life often asks us to move faster and look inward. It wasn’t until a darker season arrived that the outdoors found her again.

After losing her dad, she turned to nature—specifically solo hiking—not as an escape, but as a way through. Out there, she found peace and solitude. A place where her thoughts could quiet, and where she could sit with what she was carrying without distraction.

Being outside helped her trust herself again. Step by step, she learned she was capable of hard things. Hiking Mount Timpanogos. Backpacking for the first time. Taking on challenges that once felt out of reach. Nature simplified everything. You don’t need much to feel whole.

As we moved upward, the terrain created space for conversation. Melody spoke about aspiration—about wanting to make a difference, about not taking time for granted. About how this life moves only once, and how easily it can pass if you let it.

“She believes she climbed her mountain so others could see that it can be done. ”

She notices the small things instinctively. Sounds. Animals. The way a smile exchanged with a stranger can shift a moment. And when effort gives way to an overlook, she slows completely. She sits with herself. Takes it all in. Lets the moment settle.

What Melody hopes people feel when they see her journey is hope. That pain doesn’t last forever. That even when you’re standing at the bottom of the mountain, convinced there’s no way up, there is. She believes she climbed her mountain so others could see that it can be done.

This hike doesn’t represent the struggle.

It represents the other side.

Where grief has softened into gratitude.

Where life is felt fully again.

Spending time with Melody is a reminder not to let time pass unnoticed.

To move while you can.

To choose intention over waiting.

This is Spirit of the Moment.
